Nobody's gettin' out of here alive

Hey all,
I am sure by now you all know that Jack Lalanne passed yesterday.
He was 96 years old.
He lived a long, healthy, happy and productive life.
He left behind a wife who loved him and a legacy of healthy living that others can emulate.
Sure we all wanted to see him hit 100, but 96 is not too shabby.
Especially considering how young his father died

And there you go...that's what drove him.
I have accepted that I will die someday.
Now I want to live as fully and ably as possible.
I don't want to be like my gramma,
Unable to stand without assistance because her muscles had atrophied from disuse.
If that happens because of a terminal illness so be it.
But as much as I am able, I will try and prevent it.
I did the gym..
30 minutes on the elliptical...40 crunches...40 obliques...40 lower ab lifts...120 situps.
upper body weights...1 mile walk and 1 mile run.
Good time at the gym.
I am really enjoying the jogging...I do mine barefoot (well in socks anyways)...
maybe someday I will have the money for vibrams.
So..
Good Job jack! You ran the race and you finished well.
You can't ask for more.
Chris out.

I saw that earlier today that he had passed. He did run the race and finish well. He helped so many, inspired so many, got down in the trenches with so many. I think that he achieved everything that he wanted to while he was here. I am still working out my thoughts on joy, and purpose and all that. I am getting closer to a blog post. I do want to take a moment to say that I am thankful for you. I think that as we are ready we attract into our lives the people who are on the same track and have something to contribute. I know that you have contributed so much to my journey. I hope that maybe I have contributed a little bit of something to yours. Kind of like music and MTV, maybe we can help each move up that rung of success to get where we want to go. If that makes any sense at all. Anyway, thanks for all of the thought-provoking posts. I look forward to them every day.

Some things are in our control, some things are not. The trick is to know the difference.

Knowing the difference keeps us from taking credit (or blame) for something that we had very little to do with or giving ourselves a pass on something we could have changed.

I'm still working on that trick. And you know what I think the truth is? I think we won't really know what was and was not in our control until we stand in Glory. I think we'll find out that we blamed ouirselves or patted ourselves on the back for things that we did not really do and that we passed on things we could have changed. If we had only known.

Here's to as much clarity as we can get on this side of the Jordan!

I found this respectfully hilarious: "Sure we all wanted to see him hit 100, but 96 is not too shabby."

Not too shabby at all. I'm like you, Chris. All I fear is a long, painful death. But a peaceful one? I can do that. Be well, friend :)))

I've been watching videos of Jack all evening. He was so full of enthusiasm and determined to wring out the most from life.

I appreciate you sharing this one... it was touching to hear him tell where his motivation came from... losing his Father, and wishing he could have gotten through to him.

I tend to think most of us have people we care about, and would like to help... and sometimes that person is ourselves!! I think I'll be watching more of his old shows... there is a lot to be learned from him, still.

He was an icon. What a man! What a life! That is all we can really ask for, isn't it?

I thought of you yesterday when i heard the news about Jack. How many of us can say that we lived a life that was exactly what we wanted - that we MADE to be exactly what we wanted? He is inspiring to us all, even now that he has gone.
